INTERNATIONAL SECURITY ASSISTANCE FORCE:
ROMANIAN MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENCE ANNOUNCEMENT - 31 JANUARY 2002

On 30 January, the Romanian military platoon completed the deployment to Afghanistan. After arriving, the soldiers started setting up their base camp operation near Kabul, and established communications both with the Romanian General Staff and the other units of the multinational military force.

Lt Col Gheorghita Teodorescu, the Romanian Liaison Officer, officially handed the transfer of authority documents to the ISAF command the same day. After finishing the transport missions for the Romanian contingent, a C-130 Hercules belonging to the Romanian Air Force and its two crews and technical personnel will fly to the ISAF operation area on February 5th, and be made available to the force. Through its participation, Romania remains the only NATO candidate country contributing to ISAF.
