Human rights are not a matter of charity

In a year which has seen the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people because of violence and unrest in North Africa and the Middle East and drought in the Horn of Africa, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay urges all States which have not yet done so to ratify the Convention on Migrant Workers.

 
Human rights are not a matter of charity or a reward for obeying immigration rules, Pillay says in an address to commemorate International Migrants Day.
