Consultation on Ofqual’s duties and powers
03 December 2009 (00:00:00)
The Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009, which received Royal Assent on 12th November 2009 sets out the duties and powers we will have.
The legislation establishes Ofqual as an independent statutory body with responsibilities for the regulation of general and vocational qualifications in England. We will also regulate vocational qualifications in Northern Ireland.
Ofqual will be an independent body which will report directly to Parliament.
Ofqual will soon be seeking views from all stakeholders.
- There will be a formal consultation with all stakeholders to seek views on how we should exercise our duties and powers in the future. The consultation will include information about the context of the legislation and will explain the duties and powers which we will have and the suggested ways by which these could be used.
- Ofqual will also publish transitional proposals.
- There will also be a consultation on national curriculum and early years regulatory assessment tools for 2011. This consultation will be launched in the new year and will engage with key stakeholders in these areas of expertise.
