Monitoring of vocational qualifications: Annual report 2005

Last updated on: 08/04/2008

This report covers the 20 awarding bodies selected for monitoring in 2005. All 20 were monitored against the requirements laid down in The statutory regulation of external qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (2004). In addition awarding bodies offering NVQs were monitored against the criteria laid down in the NVQ code of practice (2001), which amplifies the statutory regulations.

The report intended to:

  • explain how the regulatory authorities carried out the monitoring process, ensuring that the performance of awarding bodies met the regulatory requirements for quality, rigour, fairness and consistency
  • summarise findings from monitoring activities and the steps taken by the regulatory authorities to address any problems.

This document was published by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The regulatory function of QCA is now the responsibility of the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). Ofqual regulates qualifications and monitors national curriculum assessments in England.
