Proposals for cross-referencing QCF and EQF levels

03 November 2008 (00:00:00)

Consultation on proposals for cross-referencing the levels of the Qualifications Credit Framework (QCF) with those of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

In November 2007 the UK government signed up to a recommendation of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union on the establishment of the EQF for lifelong learning. The recommendation includes the proposal that member states relate their national qualifications systems to the EQF by 2010, in particular by referencing, in a transparent manner, their qualification levels to the levels of the EQF.

Ofqual is working in partnership with QCA and CCEA in both the process of cross referencing the QCF against the EQF and in taking forward the implementation of the agreed cross referencing post consultation with awarding organisations and other stakeholders.

QCA is currently consulting on the proposals. You can access the consultation from the QCA website (opens in a new window).

The consultation closes on 3 February and the final cross-referencing will be published at the end of March 2009.
