Qualification monitoring reports (VQs)

Last updated on: 31/03/2008

This is a post-accreditation report evaluating the new assessor and verifier (A&V) awards, their introduction to centres by the awarding bodies and their delivery in relation to the requirements of the relevant assessment strategy. These awards were designed to replace the existing suite of ā€˜D’ unit qualifications and were made available towards the end of 2002.

The report addressed the following key issues:

  • did students tend to be awarded lower grades than appropriate in their vocational GCSE examinations?
  • was there a problem with the grading of vocational GCSE examinations?
  • what were the factors that resulted in differences in apparent attainment?

The appendices support the report.

These documents were published by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The regulatory function of QCA is now the responsibility of the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). Ofqual regulates qualifications and monitors national curriculum assessments in England.
