New case studies

Ofqual Northern Ireland continues to work extensively with sector skills councils (SSCs), awarding bodies, external and internal verifiers, assessors and other key stakeholders in Northern Ireland to produce case studies on effective assessment practices and to promote best practice implementation of NVQs within organisations.

The following downloads present our most recent case studies in these areas.

An Essential Success Story for Moypark

Moypark recognising that some of their NVQ candidates had considerable literacy and numeracy problems established an essential skills programme which to date 300 employees have benefited from. This case study highlights the benefit of this programme to both Moypark and their employees.

NVQs – meeting the requirements of Investors in People

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety was working towards IiP. This work identified the lack of a relevant accredited programme for administrative staff. This case study illustrates how the NVQ in Administration met both the needs of its staff and the requirements of Investors in People.

A first for Northern Ireland – NVQ Ductwork through APL

This case study highlights how SummitSkills, in partnership with the Heating and Ventilation Contractors Association, developed candidate and assessor packs which could be used to assess the prior learning of the experienced worker and accredit them with a level 2 or 3 NVQ in Ductwork.

NVQs as a progression route

While the Department of Employment and Learning was supporting the personal development of staff, discussions revealed the lack of qualifications of many staff and the possibility of using the NVQ to both develop staff and allow them to achieve an accredited qualification. This case study shows how the NVQ was effectively used by staff to gain promotion.

Careers guidance bridging the gap between formal and vocational qualifications

The Careers Service Northern Ireland sponsored a group of staff to undertake a formal qualification in Careers Guidance. However, it was later identified that there was a gap between application of knowledge and assessed work-based practice. This case study shows how the NVQ level 4 in Advice and Guidance was used to meet the identified gap.
