The regulation of examinations and qualifications: an international study

Last updated on: 30/03/2009

Ofqual is interested in the topic of examinations and qualifications regulation.  It is also committed to studying international best practice in examinations and qualifications.  It has therefore linked these two interests and conducted international research into regulation of examinations and qualifications.  This research has had two phases: a questionnaire study in which data were collected in 2007, and a follow-up focus group study in which data were collected in 2008.  These studies are reported in the documents on this page:

2007 questionnaire study

This is a report of an international research project in which the data were collected in the autumn of 2007. The research was designed to be hypothesis generating; to give an initial understanding of how international findings could provide insight into English qualifications and examinations regulation, and inform future work.

2008 focus group study

This is a report summarising findings from a focus group conducted with 12 senior education officials from nine countries between 3rd and 5th September 2008. The group addressed issues relating to the regulation of examinations and qualifications.

Both reports can also be downloaded from INCA (opens in a new window).
