The Prime Minister has paid tribute to the three British soldiers who died in Iraq yesterday.
Mr Blair said:
“I would like to express my deep sympathy and condolences to the families of those soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq yesterday.”
He also expressed his pride and gratitude to the Black Watch Regiment for the “extraordinary and heroic” job they are doing in the country.
Their work is of “crucial importance” in making sure democratic elections can go ahead in Iraq, the Prime Minister added.
Holding successful elections in January was “the single most important element of bringing stability to Iraq and therefore stability to the wider Middle East”.
“So it is absolutely crucial for the security of our own country that happens’.
