One month left for fuel payments

26 February 2004

Pensioners have only one month left to claim their Winter Fuel Payment of up to £200.

Over £1.9 billion has been given to warm the homes of people over 60 this winter already. Most pensioners receive their payments automatically if they received a payment last year and their circumstances have not changed.

Applications from people who don’t receive the state pension or other benefit, or did not receive a payment last year must be received by the end of March.

Pensions Minister Malcolm Wicks said:

"The bottom line is that no older person should worry about turning up the heating and fending off the cold in winter."

Anyone who has not received an automatic payment and considers themselves eligible should call the Winter Fuel Payment Helpline on 08459 151515.

Vulnerable households can also apply for up to £2,500 for a new central heating system through the Warm Front scheme. Fine out more by calling 0800 952 0600.
