Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery

The Prime Minister has re-appointed Sir Nicholas Blake as a Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery for a period of four years from November 2009.

Biographical Details

Sir Nicholas Blake was appointed Judge of the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division in 2007 and is nominated to sit in the Administrative Court. Prior to that, he was a Barrister practicing in the field of public law and human rights, with a special interest in immigration, asylum, and European free movement law where he appeared in many of the leading cases He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1994.  He has a special prominence in the field of immigration, asylum and European free movement law, where he has appeared in many of the leading cases of the past ten years.

Notes to Editors

The National Portrait Gallery holds the largest and most distinguished collection of portraits in the world. As an institution it fulfils a number of roles relating to the historic and contemporary aspects of this collection: research and academic role, educational role and a wider role within public life. The post is not remunerated. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.

The re-appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice.  Sir Nicholas Blake has not undertaken any significant political activity during the past five years.
