Gordon Brown has expressed his admiration for a group of young people and their contribution to local communities.
Writing in the Suffolk Evening Star about the newspaper’s Shining Lights initiative, the PM said it was vital to "recognise and celebrate" the work of local people who are "making a difference". The Evening Star published a special edition featuring good news stories about young people across the county.
The PM said:
"I think the idea of Shining Lights is an excellent one. The young people you feature are an inspiration to us all. They are a credit to Suffolk and the whole country. "
Mr Brown added that the Government planned to spend £120 million over the next three years enable more young people to do volunteering on behalf of their communities.

I would like to thank you for sending me the Evening Star special edition ‘Shining Lights’. I think the idea of Shining Lights is an excellent one. The young people you feature are an inspiration to us all. They are a credit to Suffolk and the whole country.
Over the next three years, we will spend around £120 million more to enable more young people to do volunteering on behalf of their communities. I also want the honours system to recognise and celebrate the contribution of more local people who are making a difference in their own communities, and I would like the Evening Star to invite its readers to help us do that.
All of us can make a difference in our communities, and I want everyone’s contribution to be celebrated.
