Charities hit by triple whammy of financial pressures during the recessionMonday 5 March
New figures from the NCVO Almanac, supported by Civil Society Media, depict a charity sector struggling with the worst recession for fifty years. The figures, released today for the first time, show that charities were hit by £2.3 billion in rising costs purely as a result of inflation between 2008 and 2010. Speaking at the NCVO Annual Conference, Sir Stuart Etherington also highlighted the dramatic drop in the voluntary sector workforce, losing over 70,000 staff in the past year. |

Joint letter urges Chancellor to support sector in the BudgetThursday 23 February
We have written a joint letter along with other leading voluntary sector organisations to ask the Chancellor to put in place a set of simple measures to help the sector weather the current financial storm, ahead of his budget statement on 21 March. The letter reminds the Chancellor of the important contribution voluntary organisations and social enterprises make to the UK economy and our society, and expresses concern that organisations are still being hit disproportionately by the worsening financial climate and the speed and scale of cuts in public expenditure: |
