Collaboration
The Digital Preservation department at The National Archives is involved with research projects and working groups in collaboration with other organisations both nationally and internationally.

Planets - Preservation and Long-term Access through Networked Services
A four-year project co-funded by the European Union to address digital preservation challenges. The National Archives is one of 16 project partners and is leading on the development of new tools to characterise digital objects.
-
Preserv and Preserv2 - Preservation Eprint Services
Preserv develops digital preservation services for use in digital repositories. We have used our PRONOM and DROID tools to profile file formats held in institutional repositories around the world. The project is now closed.
-
InSPECT - Investigating the significant properties of electronic records over time
Working with the Arts & Humanities Data Service, this project investigates significant properties of digital records which need preserving for the future. It is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee.

Working with industry
We are working closely with several international bodies to bring together PRONOM and the Global Digital Format Registry Project. This will support the requirements of a larger digital preservation community, creating a Unified Digital Formats Registry (UDFR).
