Map of Hadrian's Wall

The Roman wall was built between AD 122 and 128 by the emperor Hadrian, to separate the northern and southern regions of Britain, and was rebuilt under Septimius. A continuous line of defence marking the northern frontier of Roman Britain, the wall was guarded by mile-castles, turrets and ditches. This map shows that it extended for 73 miles from Wallsend-on-Tyne on the east coast to Bowness-on-Solway on the west.
