Consultation on functional National Coal Board photograph. Cat ref: COAL 80/1854 requirements for sustaining digital records over time

A few years ago, we produced generic requirements aimed at outlining what was involved in maintaining access to digital records for an extended period (decades) until the records can be destroyed or passed to a specialist archive for permanent archiving.

The National Archives is consulting on new draft functional requirements to achieve these outcomes: Functional requirements consultation draft(705kb )

These are articulated as extensions to the existing Requirements for electronic records management systems published in 2002.

This should be of interest to IT managers in Government, records and information managers, archivists and IT suppliers and contractors.

Comments on this draft are invited before 28 February 2006. Please send them to:
e-records@nationalarchives.gov.uk.

Please note that there is no intention to evaluate software solutions against these requirements in any formal testing programme.
