Statistics & surveys
We are constantly assessing and surveying developments and trends in the archival community. Our findings have been published in a number of different forms and are brought together here.
Archives at the Millennium is the twenty-eighth report of the Historical Manuscripts Commission 1991-99. The report presents the results of an extensive consultation exercise to assess the archival health of the nation.
The National Archives has managed and co-operated on a series of surveys to gather quantitative and qualitative data about archival facilities and services in the UK. These are collectively known as the archival mapping projects. A separate survey of cataloguing problems in record repositories across much of England and Wales was published in 2002. We have also produced an overview of UK archival resources on the Internet.
The Public Services Quality group has published a Survey of visitors to British archives which will also be of interest.
