The National Archives Standard for record repositories

This Standard is supported by our Framework of Standards which comprises a range of standards and best practice guidelines in all aspects of record keeping.

The new standard is largely based on the former 'HMC Standard', but it applies equally to all kinds of records and archives. It replaces the former 'HMC Standard for record repositories' (3rd edition) and also the guidance on public records in 'Beyond the PRO', both of which have been withdrawn. Approvals of repositories achieved under the older standards will be carried over, as will formal subscriptions to the 'HMC Standard'.
