Closures and disruption at Kew

Closure dates

During the building work there will be noise and disruption to our services. The National Archives, Kew will be closed to the public:

  • from Monday 21 to Sunday 27 January 2008 inclusive

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that these essential building works may cause you.

Changes to original document services

We regret that there will be reduced seating capacity in the document reading rooms from 17 December 2007 until the end of the improvement programme. Any visitors wishing to look at original documents in the reading rooms will be admitted on a first come, first served basis during this period. Find out more about these arrangements.

Unfortunately this means that we will have to temporarily withdraw the facility to order original documents in advance of your visit to Kew. This will apply from Friday 30 November 2007 until the end of March 2008.

The rest of our online services will be available as usual at nationalarchives.gov.uk.

We will publish more information as soon as it is available on our website, as well as at The National Archives, Kew and at the Family Records Centre.

Latest news for week commencing Monday 7 January 2008

Work is continuing on the reading rooms at Kew. To minimise the impact of the building work on your visit, the majority of work will be carried out between 12:00 and 22:00. Apart from our planned closure dates we will remain open to the public during this time. However the building work will affect your visit to our reading rooms until spring 2008. We will publish weekly updates on the progress of the work and the exact nature of the disruption on this page, so you should check our website for latest information before you visit.
