Second Reappraisal of Initial Training - Oct 2004

Between June and October 2004, the Director of Operational Capability (DOC) team conducted a further appraisal of the Initial Training of non-officer recruits of all three Services. The aim of this second Re-appraisal is to assess progress against the recommendations made by the original DOC Appraisal of Initial Training, which reported in December 2002.

Appraisal of Initial Training - Feb 2003

Between 3 October and 18 December 2002, the Director of Operational Capability conducted an Appraisal of Initial Training across all 3 Services. Data was gathered from 2,450 questionnaires, over 1,500 interviews and from discussions with recruits and trainees during visits to 17 Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force Initial Training establishments.

Departmental Progress Report - Jul 2003

This six month Progress Report of follow-up action on the Director of Operational Capability's Appraisal of Initial Training, published in February 2003, details the achievements in implementing his recommendations.

Re-Appraisal of Initial Training - Jul 2003

In April 2003, the Director Operational Capability was tasked to conduct an independent follow-up Re-Appraisal of the Initial Training of non-officer recruits of all 3 Services. This was designed to provide a further health check of training regimes and to gauge the extent to which progress had been achieved after the initial Appraisal. The Re-Appraisal took place in June and July 2003 and the team had full access to all relevant personnel, units and documents.
