Private Finance Unit

The MOD PFU was established on 1 November 2004 and brought together the private finance units in the Directorate of Broadening Smart Acquisition (DBSA), the DPA (Defence Procurement Agency) and the Defence Logistics Organisation (DLO) into a new centralised PFU covering the whole of the MOD.

Services

The unit provides the following services:

  • Development of MOD PFI policy and guidance.
  • Advice and assistance to MOD Integrated Project Teams.
  • Scrutiny of PFI projects to provide assurance to senior staff that our PFI projects are soundly based, properly managed and meet HM Treasury requirements.
  • A central PFI project information resource.

Awards

The MOD has won four awards at this year's Public Private Finance Awards.

The Grand Prix Award for the best privately financed project in operation from across all government sectors and the Award for the Best Operational Defence Scheme was won by the Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) project.  The Best UK Deal to reach Financial Close for the C-Vehicles project, which was also short-listed for the Judges' Award for Innovation.  Mr Nick Prior Head PFU was awarded the prize for Individual Contribution to PFI.  For more details see www.publicprivatefinanceawards.com?Results.aspx
