  • Defence Geospatial Intelligence (DGI) is the MOD's primary organisation for the provision of Geographic Information and Imagery Intelligence (IMINT). It was initially formed by the amalgamation of Military Survey and JARIC in April 2000. In April 2005, as a result of de-agencification, the DGIA became DGI. It is owned by Director General Intelligence Collection (DGIC), under the overall control of Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).

    DGI comprises of a Headquarters and 3 business units:

    The Headquarters and the Defence Geographic Centre (DGC), which includes the MOD Geospatial Library and Map Depot are located at Feltham in Middlesex. JARIC - The National Imagery Exploitation Centre is located at RAF Brampton, near Huntingdon and the Geographic Engineer Group (GEG) is located at Hermitage, near Newbury, with a field squadron based at Moenchengladbach in Germany and an affiliated Territorial Army Unit - 135 Independent Geographic Squadron, RE (V) at Ewell in Surrey.

    DGI Headquarters

    The Director of DGI is Brigadier David Potts MBE, and he is supported by a team of 48 headquarters staff who manage the strategic aspects of the organisation's work and ensures that its strategies are turned into policy, plans and action.

  • Improve DGI personnel and training planning and management process
  • Develop Task Force Working 
  • Improve the management of equipment and services support
  • Establish the PICTAT
  • Staff

    DGI has a staff of approximately 1600, made up of MOD civilians and personnel from all three Services.
