AFOPS is designed to provide the single Services with clear strategic direction for the policies they need to sustain their ability to conduct operations into the 21st Century. This document is targeted primarily at MOD and the single Service policy makers involved in the single Service’s own personnel change agendas and review work: including the Naval Service’s Personnel Strategy and TopMast1 agenda, key features of the Army’s Personnel Development Agenda and the ‘people’ pillar of the RAF Strategy.

The UK Defence Industrial Strategy is aimed at ensuring that our Armed Forces are provided with the equipment that they require , on time, and at best value for money.
Introduction

The UK Defence Industrial Strategy was announced on 15 December 05 in Parliament by the Secretary of State for Defence.

The strategy is squarely aimed at ensuring that our Armed Forces are provided with the equipment that they require , on time, and at best value for money. We need to be assured that we can procure from a sustainable industrial base, that retains within the UK those industrial capabilities (including infrastructure, skills, intellectual property and capacity) that are required, from a national security perspective, to ensure our appropriate sovereignty.

Defence Training Review Report

Following the Strategic Defence Review published in 1998, the Ministry of Defence undertook a comprehensive and wide-ranging review of all aspects of individual training and education, both Service and Civilian.
The DTR IPT are taking forward a number of recommendations as part of the Director General Training and Education responsibilities. The following pages present the main report and supplementary information on the Defence Training Review, which was published in 2001.

MOD Welsh Language Scheme

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has adopted the principle that in the conduct of its business with the public in Wales, it will treat the English and Welsh languages on a basis of equality.  

This Scheme sets out how the Ministry of Defence will give effect to that principle. The Scheme applies equally to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the Ministry of Defence Headquarters and its agencies and trading funds. In drawing up the measures set out in the Scheme, the Department has taken account of what is appropriate in the circumstances and reasonably practicable.

Strategic Defence Review: A New Chapter (Cm5566)

Following the appalling events of 11 September, the then Secretary of State for Defence, Mr Geoff Hoon MP, announced that the Ministry of Defence would look again at its defence posture and plans to ensure that we have the right concepts, the right forces and the right capabilities to meet the additional challenges we face from international terrorism and asymmetric threats (defined as the threat of an attack by unconventional methods which would have a disproportionate effect).
