Welcome to the FRES website

The aim of the Future Rapid Effect System (FRES) is to enhance the deployability of UK Land Forces by delivering a family of medium-weight, network-capable armoured vehicles.  In doing so it will also address the increasing obsolescence of parts of the existing armoured vehicle fleet.

FRES is now in its initial Assessment Phase (iAP) and is making considerable progress.  The key objectives of this Phase are to better define the FRES Requirement; to develop an optimum acquisition strategy; and to reduce technical and other risks to manageable levels before any major investment decisions are made. Industrial issues, such as maintaining UK expertise in the armoured fighting vehicle field while ensuring long-term value for money for the MOD, are being addressed, and we are being open with industry about our plans.

FRES’ exact costs and date of introduction into service have yet to be established due to the early stage of the programme.
