Patents and Industrial Designs

 

Patents protect new inventions and new industrial processes. Over the years, the work of MoD scientists and engineers has resulted in a large portfolio of patents being granted in the name of the Secretary of State for Defence. Details of these patents can be obtained from any patent database. The MoD is often willing to license firms who wish to manufacture these patented inventions, or use these patented processes.

Industrial design laws are similar rights that protect the work put into designing the shape or configuration of items such as clothing.
