Overview
Abbey Wood is a modern office complex capable of accommodating up to 5,700 people. The buildings are grouped into four 'neighbourhoods'. The open plan offices within each neighbourhood are linked by a central covered atrium. Not only does this allow maximum light into the offices it also provides a heart for each neighbourhood with a range of dining and informal meeting facilities.
One atrium boasts a small shop, a hairdressers, a dry cleaners and a cash machine. The site is largely surrounded by a lake which has become home to a variety of natural wildlife. Abbey Wood also boasts some 5,000 trees and 28,000 shrubs. There are numerous walks through the grounds and one doesn't need to go far before finding a seating area to enjoy some peace and calm away from the office environment.
There is a subsidised, fully equipped nursery, which provides rest, play and education facilities for up to 100 infants and children. With views across the lake, the business library provides access to over 80,000 reference books and publications on-site, and, using IT systems, to technical information world-wide. Located close to the library is the central facilities building. This houses the lecture theatre, a number of conference suits, self -service restaurant and a bar, fitness centre, medical centre and main reception area. The fitness centre is available to all staff and includes a small well-equipped gym, sports hall and squash and badminton courts. There are showers and changing rooms in each neighbourhood as well as in the fitness centre. For less mobile staff, there is wheelchair access lifts and disabled toilets throughout the site.
