MI5 and MI6

The Ministry of Defence receives many enquiries about careers with MI5 (the Security Service) and MI6 (the Secret Intelligence Service).

Neither MI5 or MI6 are part of the MOD. MI5 answers to the Home Secretary while MI6 answers to the Foreign Secretary.

MI5 has a website at http://www.mi5.gov.uk. MI6 does not have a website but can be contacted at the following address:

PO Box 1300
London
SE1 1BD
Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is not part of the MOD either. It has a website at http://www.gchq.gov.uk

The Defence Intelligence Staff is, however, part of the MOD; see the Civil Service careers link above for more information on civilian careers in the MOD.
