MOD Medal Office

Lt Col (Retd) Peter Lockyer, shows former Veterans Minister, Ivor Caplin and DCDS(Pers) Lt Gen Palmer around the new MOD Medals Office

An efficient new MOD medals office was opened in March 2005 at the Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency, RAF Innsworth. The centre has the latest in a range of IT equipment to revolutionise the way medals are issued and speed up delivery.

This significant investment in personnel, laser cutting and computer technology has already led to a substantial reduction in the historic backlog of medals and underlines the priority MOD attaches to the prompt delivery of medals to veterans, their relatives and serving personnel.

The MOD Medal Office provides medals for all three services, if you would like to apply for a medal please use the printer friendly MOD Medal Application form attached.  This form is for ex-Service personnel only.  All serving personnel should apply via their units.

At the moment, the medal office is unable to accept claims or queries by e-mail.

As a large number of people have not claimed for their medals until now, there is usually a backlog of requests, all of which are dealt with strictly in the order the claims are received. All claims are dealt with as quickly as possible and there are teams of skilled officials who work on this task. Every effort will be made to acknowledge and process claims in a timely manner, but please appreciate that if you are claiming a medal for service performed many years ago it will be necessary to recover files from the archives, which will take time, so please be patient.

All information about medals issued to First World War veterans is held at the National Archive at Kew.

More information can be found at the Veterans Agency Medals Pages
