About AFPAA

The Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency (AFPAA) contributes to our defence through the provision of pay, pensions and administration services to military personnel.

Our services are mainly delivered through the Partnering Agreement with EDS

The quality and timeliness of the payments has a significant impact on the morale and effectiveness of individual Service personnel.  The volume of monthly transactions in 2003/4 shows the scale of our services:

  • 275,000 pay transactions
  • 340,000 pensions
  • 830,000 records maintained

In future, these services will be delivered through harmonised and simplified Joint Personnel Administration (JPA), which, in terms of the benefits it will generate, is one of the top five defence modernisation projects.

We also provide and maintain the systems, which hold Service personnel records and administer Service medals.  Timely and accurate data is essential for effective personnel and tasks like reserve mobilisation and workforce planning.

Our customers include individual serving and former Service personnel and their dependants, the single Services and the MOD's corporate branches.

We employ some 1800 people (550 MOD, 1400 EDS) at four sites in the UK.

This will be followed by the addition of more functions as JPA is rolled out to the Services.
