About Defence

MOD Police Committee

Introduction

Section 1(5) of the Ministry of Defence Police Act (1987) requires the Secretary of State to appoint a Police Committee to advise him on matters concerning the MDP (Ministry of Defence Police), and to provide scrutiny and assurance that constabulary powers are being exercised lawfully. The Committee is a member of the APA (Association of Police Authorities), and mirrors Police Authority best practice where possible and appropriate. Despite recent legislation, which proposes to replace Police Authorities with Police and Crime Commissioners, the Police Committee will continue to perform its role largely unchanged for the foreseeable future.

Please direct any queries to the Police Committee Clerk.
