Welcome to the DVA website.
The DVA is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence (MOD). We are the UK's largest government organisation carrying out National Security Vetting (NSV). As a Charter Mark accredited organisation, being the only NSV organisation to obtain this government standard, we ensure quality is a key part of the service that we deliver.

We process around 150,000 NSV applications each year to enable people to do sensitive jobs or access restricted locations. Within the defence community we provide NSV clearances to:

Armed Services (Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force)
MOD civil servants
Defence contractors
Other Government Departments (OGD)

We provide assurance for site admission and un-restricted access for material up to TOP SECRET, using the Cabinet Office vetting standard. We especially pride ourselves in providing a tailored service to customers based on their individual risk management needs and provide a fully rounded service of help and customer engagement to support this. Since we formed as an Agency our customer base has widened from the Defence area into a large portfolio of other government departments, organisations and national settings allowing us to benefit from the experience by applying the lessons learned to our own business process and procedures that results today in an organisation fit for the 21st Century.

Important Information Performance Issues

The Defence Vetting Agency continue to experience IT performance issues as a result of ongoing widespread problems. This has resulted in the loss of connectivity with a 3rd party supplier and is therefore regrettably resulting in a slight reduction in current performance.


We would like to take this opportunity to inform all customers of the ongoing issues and reassure you that we are doing our up most to rectify these and regain full productivity.
