Information relating to AVCs and Added Years for members of the Armed Forces Pension Scheme 1975 and 2005

AFPS 75 - Improved Death In Service (DIS) Benefit AVC

  • I am a member of AFPS 75 and wish to start a new DIS AVC

If you wish to start a contract to increase the DIS lump sum from three to four times representative pay you should complete AFPS Form 4 found on the SPVA web page (linked on the right)

AFPS 75 - Improved Spouse Benefits and Headroom on Pay AVCs

  • I am a member of AFPS 75 and wish to start a new Spouse or Headroom AVC

If you were not previously paying for a spouse or headroom AVC and wish to start a contract you should complete AFPS Form 4 found on the SPVA web page (linked on the right)

AFPS 75 - Added Years AVC

  • I am a member of AFPS 75 and want to start a new Added Years AVC

The factors to calculate the cost of Added Years are linked on the right. You should complete AFPS Form 5 found on the SPVA web page (linked on the right).

  • I am a member of AFPS 75 and want to change or stop my Added Years AVC

Once a contract is entered into, the level of contribution cannot be increased or decreased and only in highly exceptional circumstances can it be stopped).

AFPS 05 - Added Years AVC

  • I am a member of AFPS 05 and want to start a new Added Years AVC

Stakeholder Pensions

Stakeholder pensions are available with the MOD's preferred provider, Scottish Widows. Stakeholder pensions do not affect AFPS benefits but help individuals maximise their retirement benefits and allow members to save in a tax-efficient way. The Armed Forces have negotiated a specially reduced annual management charge of 0.8 percent. For further information on this scheme, please contact:
