Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS)

We provide the MoD with unarmed guarding services. Our guarding of Defence personnel and property contributes to delivery of the UK's defence capability.

MOD Guard at work

Our officers are based at over 198 locations nationwide stretching from Culdrose in Cornwall to Saxa Vord in the Shetland Islands. In some locations we are co-located with our police colleagues in the Agency.

Our regional structure
We are divided into five regions and a central headquarters each with their own management and support structures.
Our five regional offices are located at Clyde Naval base, York, Shrewsbury, Bath and Aldershot.

Our background
We were formed in October 1992 with a range of common professional standards. On 1st April 2004 we merged with the MoD Police to form the Police and Guarding Agency in order to provide a more consistent and co-ordinated approach to the guarding of the MoD estate.
