DCDC - Policy
The key DCDC Policy priority is to support the Strategic Context Process, which is led by the Policy Director.
DCDC Policy work aims to develop baseline assessments in order to inform initial work on Departmental Strategic Guidance 2007:
Key social, resource, political, technological and military drivers of change to 2035 and their immediate Defence and security implications.
Major strategic challenges and opportunities within a given timeframe, based on the interplay between the various anticipated drivers of change.
The programme will continue to be largely trend-based and will take into account possible shocks and contingent factors, including potential threats, to quantify risk within the future Strategic Context. Differential outcomes of varying probability will be assessed and a stock-take of possible developments by 2020 will be provided. More responsive Strategic Perspectives on the long-term effects of high-impact developments (for example major political upheaval, environmental disaster, terrorist WMD acquisition) may also be needed to support the Strategic Context Process.
