DCDC Overview
The DCDC receives its strategic direction from the Joint Doctrine and Concepts Board, chaired by the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff. It works as part of the Ministry of Defence's central Policy and Commitments Area and the Director General Development, Concepts and Doctrine reports directly to the Policy Director.
DCDC will:
Provide the intellectual bases that inform coherent decisions in defence policy, capability development and operations, both now and into the future.
Principal Outputs DCDC will:
Provide cross-dimensional analysis of the future context for Defence out to 30 years.
Determine the implications of UK Defence Policy for future military capabilities, planning assumptions and force structures.
Initiate, formulate and validate concepts to shape coherent capability development.
Articulate and provide doctrine at the strategic, operational and Joint tactical levels that incorporates enduring principles and best practice.
Develop, articulate and promote the Defence role in crises and conflict as part of the multi-agency Comprehensive Approach.
Maintain legal compliance and sustain a favourable legal environment for Defence activity and capability.
