Law Centres

What do Law Centres do?
Law Centres provide a free and independent professional legal service to people who live or work in their catchment areas.

What areas of law do they deal with?
To make the most of their limited resources, Law Centres have to prioritise areas of work that they feel are most in demand, and where the needs are greatest.

Volunteering and employment
Many Law Centres do use volunteer help. However, they do not rely on volunteers in the same way as many other advice organisations do. Qualified legal practitioners may help during specific advice sessions, and some volunteers do community development and research work.

Vacancies
Volunteering and job opportunities at Law Centres are now listed on-line.

How can you start a Law Centre?
If you do not have a Law Centre in your area and are interested in establishing one, please contact the LCF for help. An outline of the primary steps to establishing a Law Centre is provided here.
