Equality policy for judicial office holders with disabilities: six-month review

Date: 13 August 2008

Courtroom chair

A review of the reasonable adjustments policy for judicial office holders with disabilities and an updated version of the policy.

The Ministry of Justice is committed to fulfilling its obligations under disability discrimination acts to ensure that people with disabilities can play a full role in the justice system. Our policy is to ensure that judicial office holders with disabilities are treated fairly and consistently.

Our policy is to ensure that judicial office holders with disabilities are treated fairly and consistently.

We launched a reasonable adjustment policy in August 2007, which set out a broad approach to issues of reasonable adjustment for people with disabilities who apply for a judicial appointment, are new appointees or who are serving members of the judiciary. Part of the policy included a review of its impact on judicial office holders approximately six months after its implementation.

The updated policy and review are the result of the six-month assessment of the effectiveness of the policy.
