A 'best value' regime is going to be introduced into probation, and the government is consulting on how it should work.
This new system would involve probation boards and trusts reviewing probation services to demonstrate and drive their economy, efficiency and effectiveness, and making appropriate amendments to the delivery of those services.
The consultation paper asks a number of questions about how the new system should work.

Responses
There were 73 responses to the consultation, which generally supported the principles behind Best Value, although there were a range of opinions on how to implement the process. The responses helped inform the development of how the Best Value system will work. The Best Value system will allow probation boards and trusts to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of probation services.
