Educational materials

Inside the United Kingdom Supreme Court

Educational materials, in the areas of citizenship and the law, are being developed in consultation with an education steering group.

All the materials will be developed in consultation with teachers and students.

There will also be an exhibition space on the lower ground floor of the Supreme Court. This is an exciting opportunity to explain more about the court′s work.

The exhibits will change frequently. They will aim to:

  • increase knowledge and understanding of the function and context of the Supreme Court within the UK judicial systems in England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland
  • increase knowledge and understanding of the function and context of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council within the Commonwealth
  • explain the role of the Supreme Court in developing the law, through deciding and delivering guidance on points of law of general public importance
  • provide information about cases, their nature, type and variety including explanations of landmark cases, the issues, arguments and reasoning
  • encourage understanding of and respect for the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and the importance of the law in shaping society
  • explain the development of the historic building, including reference to Middlesex and its history, using the transformation of the building to illustrate the unique nature of the Supreme Court.
