The following Fact Sheets are currently available:

  • March 2010 - Meeting sustainability objectives - the role of ITS Fact Sheet
    This fact sheet presents a discussion on the role of technology in reducing emissions from road based transport, with a particular focus on those measures relevant to the Highways Agency and the Strategic Road Network. 
  • March 2010 - Incident Management - the role of Technology Fact Sheet
    This Fact Sheet summarises current incident management technologies used throughout the world and highlights recent Research and Development and advances in this field. 
  • February 2010 - Managed Motorways
    A summary of the tools for providing managed motorways, a review of non-UK managed motorway schemes, including evaluation evidence from a range of case studies, and a summary of implemented and planned managed motorways in the UK. 
  • September 2009 - EasyWay Fact Sheet
    The project has compiled a Fact Sheet on the EU initiative, EasyWay. It explains how the 20 European countries involved in the project are co-ordinating their activities to improve investment in ITS. The project is focusing on how ITS can help with transport safety, mitigate the effects of congestion and reduce environmental impacts.
  • September 2009 - CVHS Fact Sheet
    Cooperative Vehicle Highway Systems (CVHS) involve vehicles exchanging information with each other and with the roadside infrastructure so that drivers and road operators have access to live, up to date information about the road environment. This Fact Sheet summarises the benefits and technological challenges involved in CVHS, European activities and standards. Projects related to CVHS in Europe, Japan and the USA are summarised and developments in the UK in general and the Highways Agency in particular are discussed.
  • June 2009 - INSPIRE Fact Sheet
    EU INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information on Transport Networks) seeks to understand more about place, and the impacts upon the people and assets at that location, to better plan, manage risk and utilise resources.
    Similarly the Location Strategy for the UK seeks to enhance knowledge of place by creating a framework in which data can be harmonised and shared in a meaningful way.
  • January 2009- eCall Fact Sheet
    eCall is an in-vehicle emergency call service that is designed to speed up emergency response, with benefits for both casualties and other road users. This Fact Sheet outlines the service and its potential benefits, summarises the European policy and activities, including research and standards and outlines the UK position. The first version of the Fact Sheet was published in March 2006. It was updated in January 2007 and ahs been udated again to take account of events during 2007 and 2008.
  • April 2007 - MESA Factsheet
    Project MESA aims to design a self-establishing, self-healing, broadband network, operating at specific ‘hot spots' such as road accidents, chemical spills and natural disasters, at data rates in excess of 2Mbps.
    The EU Watch Fact Sheet provides a guide to MESA and its potential benefits, summarising the US and European positions and includes details on current HA research and an outline of the UK position.
  • February 2007 - ITS Registry Fact Sheet
    The Highways Agency ITS Registry is a repository of data definitions and data models with an associated process for improving quality and for harmonisation across different systems. The Fact Sheet describes this pilot project, the data models included and plans for the future.
  • January 2007 - DATEX II Fact Sheet
    DATEX II is developing to provide an accurate and reliable method for traffic data exchange between traffic centres and service providers. This Fact Sheet is a guide to DATEX II, summarising how it has evolved, benefits, European policy and activities and the status of DATEX in the UK. The first version of the Fact Sheet was published in May 2006. This version has been updated to take account of developments during 2006.
  • May 2006 - Standards Fact Sheet
    A brief guide to Standards and standardisation. A Standard is a specification approved by a body recognised at the regional, national or international level and made available to the public.
