Fact Sheets:

  • February 2010 - Managed Motorways
    A summary of the tools for providing managed motorways, a review of non-UK managed motorway schemes, including evaluation evidence from a range of case studies, and a summary of implemented and planned managed motorways in the UK. 
  • September 2009 - CVHS Fact Sheet
    Cooperative Vehicle Highway Systems (CVHS) involve vehicles exchanging information with each other and with the roadside infrastructure so that drivers and road operators have access to live, up to date information about the road environment. This Fact Sheet summarises the benefits and technological challenges involved in CVHS, European activities and standards. Projects related to CVHS in Europe, Japan and the USA are summarised and developments in the UK in general and the Highways Agency in particular are discussed.
  • March 2009 - eCall Fact Sheet
    eCall is an in-vehicle emergency call service that is designed to speed up emergency response, with benefits for both casualties and other road users. This Fact Sheet outlines the service and its potential benefits, summarises the European policy and activities, including research and standards and outlines the UK position. The first version of the Fact Sheet was published in March 2006. It was updated in January 2007 and has been udated again to take account of events during 2007 and 2008.
  • April 2007 - MESA Factsheet
    Project MESA aims to design a self-establishing, self-healing, broadband network, operating at specific ‘hot spots' such as road accidents, chemical spills and natural disasters, at data rates in excess of 2Mbps.
    The EU Watch Fact Sheet provides a guide to MESA and its potential benefits, summarising the US and European positions and includes details on current HA research and an outline of the UK position.

 

Reports:

  • Report on the 1st EasyWay European Conference on ITS for the Trans-European Road Network 14-16 October 2008 
    A report on the 1st conference of the Easyway project. Technical sessions included Europe-wide traveller information services, Eurpoe-wide traffic management services, freight and logistic services and connected ICT infrastructure.
  • Cooperative Vehicle-Infrastructure Systems Symposium Conference Report 28 March 2007
    A report by Jonathan Francsics on the March 2007 meeting on CVIS (Cooperative Vehicle-Infrastructure Systems ) hosted by the Dutch research organisation TNO. CVIS is expected to have impacts on flows, safety and the environment. This event was aimed at raising the awareness of CVIS through presentations of prominent European developments in this field.
  • IMS for the Transport Industry Conference Report 27 February 2007
    Report by Peter Vermaat on a February 2007 meeting on IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) for the Transport Industry, addressing the potential benefits and future implementation of this communication media.
  • FP7 Conference Report 06 February 2007 
    A high level conference launching the EC 7th Framework Research Programme in London and European events on this programme held in Cologne in February 2007 are reported in this conference report by William Gillan, along with recommendations for the Highways Agency.
  • RFID and Electronic Vehicle identificaton in Road Transport - November 2006
    Report by William Gillan covering RFID technologies, applications and standards, vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communications , and recommendations for the Highways Agency.
  • Conference Report - 6th eSafety Plenary November 2006
    Report by Alan Stevens covering sessions on progress in eSafety Working Groups, the RESPONSE code of practice, the i2010 Intelligent Car Initiative and common communications architecture in COMeSafety, along with recommendations for the Highways Agency.
  • CVIS conference Report - October 2006
    Report by Brian Stoneman on a workshop to discuss CVIS system requirements, a session on cooperative monitoring, requirements and next steps for the CVIS project, and recommendations for the Highways Agency.
  • Conference Report - 5th eSafety Plenary May 2006
