INSPIRE Fact Sheet available

Date: 1/6/2009

Source: HA

The Highways Agency has assembled a Fact Sheet on the INSPIRE Directive and the work which is being carried out within the Highways Agency in order to comply with the Directive. The Fact Sheet is available on the ITS Radar International web site by following this link.

INSPIRE, which stands for INfrastructure for SPatial InfoRmation in the European community, is an EU Directive concerning the sharing and harmonisation of spatial datasets across Europe. Spatial datasets are data or information, usually stored as coordinates, that identify the geographic location of features and boundaries. The INSPIRE Directive has considerable implications for the Highways Agency and other UK road administrations, because such organisations will be required to create standardised metadata (descriptions of the spatial data), as well as having to provide access to data that has been collected or created in standard form. Further information can also be found in the March 2009 Newsletter.
