Final facITS Workshop – System Design and Modelling of Integrated ITS

Date: 26/3/2009

The third and final workshop in the series relating to the facITS programme is to be held in London on 8th April 2009. The event will present the findings from the system design and modelling phases of the project as well addressing lessons learnt and next steps.

The facITS project, which stands for Framework Architecture and Classification for Intelligent Transport Systems, has developed an ITS risk assessment and classification scheme, which can be applied at both a high level for requirements by multiple stakeholders and at a data-flow level by designers. This classification identifies the most important risks and then system design options are selected to address these risks or the initial requirements are revised. A further step is explored in the potential for integrating ITS applications through sharing of functions or components. Computer simulation has been used to model how failures propagate through the system of the integrated application.

This UK-based work is echoed by recent standardisation work both at a European and international level:

o        ETSI, TC ITS, WG 5: DTS/ITS-0050005 - Threat Vulnerability and Risk Analysis; DTS/ITS-0050006 - Objectives and functional requirements (Part 2)

o        ISO, TC 204, WG 16: ISO/NP 13181, ITS -- CALM –- Security - Part 1: Framework; Part 2: Threat Vulnerability and Risk Analysis; Part 3: Objectives and Requirements; Part 4: Countermeasures

o        eSafety Forum: eSecurity Working Group
