A decision has been taken by CEN TC 278, the CEN ITS Standards Committee, to establish a new working group under CEN TC 278 to address standards for co-operative systems. BSi will seek to propose appropriate UK experts to this Working Group.

The resolution was taken on 20th March 2009 at the Prague CEN TC 278 meeting:

o        “Noting the progress and developments regarding co-operative systems providing information exchange between vehicles and road infrastructure as a result of e.g. European FP projects such as CVIS, COOPERS, and SAFESPOT;

o        noting the EU Action plan for the deployment of ITS in Europe, which identifies co-operative systems as an important development for future ITS applications and proposing the definition of a mandate for the ESO’s to develop harmonised standards in this area;

resolves

o        to establish a new and preliminary working group WG 16 Co-operative systems with the task to develop harmonised application standards in the area of co-operative systems;

o        to nominate Mr. Hans-Joachim Schade (DIN) as the convenor of the working group;

o        to request WG 16 to explore and define its scope and work programme and to report back to the next plenary meeting of CEN/TC 278”.
