This map shows
the rate of insolvencies in each local authority area in England & Wales in each year 2000 to 2009.
The rates shown
are per 10,000 adult population for each of bankruptcies, individual voluntary
arrangements (IVAs) and for total individual insolvency.
The rate of
bankruptcies increased from 5.3 per 10,000 adults in 2000 to 17.3 in 2009.
The rate of
IVAs increased from 2.0 per 10,000 adults in 2000 to 11.0 in 2009.
The rate of
total individual insolvencies increased from 7.2 per 10,000 adults in 2000 to
31.1 in 2009.
The rate of
bankruptcies increased by 1.5 per 10,000 adults from 15.8 in 2008 to 17.3 in
2009.
The rate of
IVAs increased by 1.9 per 10,000 adults from 9.1 in 2008 to 11.0 in 2009.
The rate of
total individual insolvencies increased by 6.2 per 10,000 adults from 24.9 in
2008 to 31.1 in 2009. This increase is thought to be partially due to the
introduction of debt relief orders (DROs) in April 2009.
The rate of
DROs is not shown on this map, as there is currently only nine months of data
available.
