Diversity
Understanding and valuing diversity is at the heart of what IMBs do. It’s about ensuring the experience of people in custody and those who care for them is fair, humane and just.
The IMB definition of diversity is broad and inclusive. It encompasses all the differences protected under equalities legislation, such as age, gender, race, religion, disability and sexual orientation – but also those that cut across these categories, such as social background and literacy levels.
Making sure that both our monitoring and our recruitment practices live up to this broad definition is a work in programmes.
With this in mind the Diversity Working Group has put together a range of information and resources to help boards monitor as effectively as possible. The DWG leads the IMB’s Diversity Strategy and is made up of board members and members of the Secretariat.
