Diversity Working Group
The Diversity Working Group (DWG) was established in 2005 to encourage IMBs to acknowledge the benefits of a diverse membership and establish a co-ordinated approach to the monitoring of diversity amongst IMBs.
The DWG is currently chaired by Dencer Brown, the co-opted National Council Representative for Diversity. Its membership comprises of IMB members with special interests in Diversity, the IMB Diversity Consultant and members of the Secretariat .

DWG Initiatives
The DWG encourages boards to raise public awareness of the IMB amongst people of diverse groups and backgrounds.
In November 2008, the DWG organised a visit for the 'South Asian Womens' Creative Collective' (SAWCC) to HMP Holloway in London. The group were given a tour of the prison and received a presentation about the work of the Independent Monitoring Board. The event was also attended by Tim Robertson, Chief Executive of the Koestler Trust (new window).
In selected regions, boards work as groups in order to share recruitment resources, skills and good practice with a view to widening recruitment networks and attracting a wider pool of applicants from different professional and social backgrounds. Clustered recruitment (Updated Nov 08)
