Annual Reports: HMP Canterbury - 2003

The new role for HMP Canterbury adopted in March/April was an event of major significance. Canterbury now has a �Category C� training prison designed to focus on the resettlement needs of prisoners with Kent addresses.The Board observed the changes being carried out and was impressed by the extent to which the inevitable disruption was minimised. However, the initial optimism generated has been tempered as the process moves on by a feeling that considerable further efforts will be needed to meet the expectations of both inmates and staff for what can be delivered in the new training prison.
