Annual Reports: HMP Brinsford - 2003
The Independent Monitoring Board (formerly the Board of Visitors) of HMYOI Brinsford has today released its Annual Report.The Young Offenders� Institution near Wolverhampton holds about 450 young men aged 15-21.The Board highlights the caring attitudes of the staff and a general positive �can do� culture throughout the gaol.They also draw the Home Secretary�s attention to a few problems at the gaol. It frequently holds high numbers of mentally disturbed young men and the Board says that prison is not the correct place for them, especially the juveniles aged 15-21.The Board would also like to see fewer young men from distant parts of the country being sent to the gaol. �It�s important for the young men to maintain links with their home areas and their families�, said Chris Laidlar, IMB Chairman.
