Annual Reports: HMP Holloway - 2003

HM Prison and Young Offender Institution Holloway is a local prison for females. It is located inNorth London and serves the courts over a wide area of South East England. Certified normalaccommodation is 512.1.2 Although Holloway�s primary role is to hold women on remand or awaiting sentence, it alsoaccommodates women who have severe psychiatric problems that cannot be treated at other prisons.There are a Young Offenders� wing and a Mother & Baby Unit within Holloway. There are usually anumber of 17 years old girls within the prison, though rarely more than six. Women who are awaitingdeportation often remain at Holloway following the end of their sentence, rather than being moved to anImmigration Detention Centre. The prison, therefore, holds a large population with diverse needs.
